I have been teaching for 35 years.  I love teaching at Vidalia Lower Elementary.  Great teachers and students are at this school.  We also have the best principals in the world.   Let's have a great year!

Spelling -  They need to choose three activities to do with the spelling words from the Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe Sheet.  Keep this sheet in the binder at all times. The spelling words this week are:  mix, mixes, nose, noses, witch, witches, coach, coaches, baby, babies, story, and stories.   Test is Thursday.  


Math - Work on the individual speed drills each night.  We are working on Module 3 lessons 8 - 11.


Reading - Read nightly.  Go over power word cards.


Tuesday - PTP at 5:30.  Math and Science night is at 6:00.

Friday is a half day.  Students dismiss at 12:30.


HOMECOMING WEEK

Monday - Crazy hair and crazy sock day

Tuesday - Dress up like you favorite sport.

Wednesday - Dress in red, white, and blue.

Thursday - Dress like someone from the past.

Spelling -  They need to choose three activities to do with the spelling words from the Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe Sheet.  Keep this sheet in the binder at all times. The spelling words this week are:  her, germ, herd, person, shirt, dirt, third, chirp, fur, surf, curl, and turtle.  


Math - Work on the individual speed drills each night.  We are working on Module 3 lessons 4 - 7.


Reading - Read nightly.  Go over power word cards.

Spelling - Your child has a Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe Sheet in their binder.  We will be using this sheet for a few weeks. There are 9 different activities to do with spelling words.  They need to choose three of them to do. Keep this sheet in the binder at all times. The spelling words this week are:  part, chart, smart, start, farm, car, cart, form, cork, storm, before, shore, score, scored, scoring


 The spelling test is given on Thursday.


Math - Work on the individual speed drills each night.  We are working on Module 3 lessons 2 - 5.


Reading - I have put a book and a skills/power word card in each child’s blue book bag.  Write down any books that you read to your child or your child reads to you on the book log sheet.  Try to read at least one book a night. I promise this will help your child so much.

Spelling - Your child has a Spelling Tic-Tac-Toe Sheet in their binder.  We will be using this sheet for the next few weeks. There are 9 different activities to do with spelling words.  They need to choose three of them to do. Keep this sheet in the binder at all times. The spelling words this week are:  chair, cheese, choke, wheel, whale, shark, sheep, ship, think, three, throat, shop, shopped, and shopping.


Math - Work on the individual speed drills each night.  We will test on Module 2 on Tuesday. We will start Module 3 lesson 1 on Wednesday.


Reading - Each child has a skills/power word card in their blue book bag.  I can tell some of you worked with your child on this last week. Way to GO!  If your child’s card has a word list on it, they need to practice reading the words correctly and with speed.  This week I plan to make sure they have the card of the level they are on and the card of the next level they are trying to reach.  Don’t forget to write down any books that you read on the book log sheet.


Friday - 2nd Grade won the Shoparoo Contest, so all 2nd graders may wear jeans for free on Friday.


Grandparents are invited to come shop with their grandchildren from 10:15 to 11:30 this Friday at the bookfair.

Tuesday is Curious George Day.  Students may wear something yellow such as a yellow shirt, hat, socks, fingernail polish, earrings, or bows.  They should still wear uniform pants, shorts, or skirts.

Spelling - This week’s words are:  talked, talking, dropped, dropping, handed, handing, lifted, lifting, hugged, hugging, smiled, smiling, danced, dancing, amaze, amazed, amazing.  Study by calling the words out to your child. Write the words at least two times. Some children are making 100’s and some are failing spelling tests.  If your child is struggling, you may want him/her to write them twice each night.

Math - Complete the nightly speed drill addition sheet with a pencil.  All homework is due on Friday.


This week we are doing Module 2, lessons 8 - 10.


Reading - Students will be bringing home a blue book bag that says 100 book challenge on it.  Your child has a power word/skills card in it. I also put a book in it for them to read.  When they read it, they can return it for another book. I wrote inside the book whether it is AR or not.  They can count the book in their 100 book challenge if it is AR or not. Help your child practice reading and doing the skills on the card.  Read to your child or let your child read to you each night. Write the name of the books that you read on the AR log card, even if it is not considered an Accelerated Reading {AR} book.  


Tuesday night is PTP night at 5:30.  This used to be called PTA.


Our class goes to the bookfair on Thursday.  I sent the bookfair sheet home last Friday. Send cash or a check.

Homework for the week of September 9th

Spelling - This week’s words are:  trace, grade, brake, crane, drive, gripe, crunch, punch, lunch, trunk, eight, nine, and ten.  Bonus words: November and Wednesday They have been getting 5 extra points for each bonus word.  They will only get 1 extra point for each bonus word now.

The words eight and nine have already been on two previous test, but some students still are not spelling them correctly.  Study each night. Write the words 3 times each.


Math - They have a new math sheet to use each night to practice speed drills.  The sheet is divided into Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday sections.  They will use a pencil, not a marker and do one section each night timed for 2 minutes.  


This week we will start on Module 2 - measurement.  Go to Youtube and search Module 2 lessons 4-7 to see what we are doing in class. 


Reading - Read with your child each night.  They can now start taking Accelerated Reading test on the computer.  I use an app that looks like this:

It scans the barcode of the book and lets you know immediately if the book is an Accelerated Reading book.  I am also sending a reading log sheet home. Your child can write down the names of books that they have read and can test on those books at school.

Reading - The students will be retested on the 1st grade words they tested on last week.  Several students struggled. Read the word list with them nightly. I will start retesting Thursday and finish on Friday.  It takes a while when checking 20 students.


Spelling - This week’s words are:  face, made, cage, spice, wide, life, robe, joke, tube, flute, seven, eight, and nine. Bonus Words: October  Tuesday

Write each word three times.  Study the words with someone nightly.  Spelling test this week will be on Friday, because this is a four day week.


Math - Work on the speed drill math sheet every night with a dry erase marker.  Take it out of the sheet protector on Thursday night and complete it with a pencil.  Several students are still not doing it with pencil and there grades reflect it. 

This week we will start on Module 2 - measurement.  Go to Youtube and search Module 2 lessons 1-4 to see what we are doing in class. 


FRIDAY - Students may come dressed as their favorite sports team...jerseys, cheerleader outfits!

Homework for the week of August 26th

NEW Binder:  It will have their homework in it.  Papers that are sent home from the office will go in it.  Your child’s behavior folder will be placed inside of it. Check it daily please.

Math - Your child should be practicing speed drill math every night with a dry erase marker.  On Thursday night, they need to take the math sheet out of the page protector and complete it with a pencil. Tonight, they have a lesson 4 math sheet to complete. 

Eureka Math - This week we are doing Module 1 Lessons 5-8.  Go to YouTube and search 2nd Grade Module 1 Lesson 5 and you can see exactly how to do this new math.  All of the lessons are on there.

 

Spelling - This week’s words are:  shack, back, neck, check, chick, lick, shock, sock, duck, luck, four, five, six  BONUS words: September, Monday

 

Write these words three times.  Study them nightly. Test will be on Thursday.  

 

ALL HOMEWORK IS TURNED IN ON FRIDAY.  Each week when your child turns in his/her homework, they get a homework punch on a punch card.  When they receive 5 punches, they get a homework pass.

 

SIGN behavior folders every night.  If a child fails to get the behavior folder signed two days in a row, they lose recess.

 

Graded paper folders go home on Tuesdays.  You have two days to look over the papers inside the folder.  Return all papers below a 70. You may keep the rest. This folder needs to be signed weekly and returned by Thursday. 

 

No school next Monday.  It is Labor Day holiday.
