Ms. Susan Mingee, Librarian at Vidalia Lower Elementary School, was honored at the 12th Annual Cecil J. Picard Awards Gala in Baton Rouge. Ms. Mingee was selected as one of the top three elementary teachers in the state of Louisiana and was one of nine overall finalists for 2019 State Teacher of the Year. Ms. Mingee is the first school librarian to be selected as a finalist in the state competition. She received commendations from Governor John Bel Edwards and from the Louisiana Department of Education, as well as a variety of prizes and an invitation to join the elite National Ne twork of Teachers of the Year Association.  

Blue Bell executives congratulated Ms. Mingee for being chosen one of the top three 2019 elementary teachers of the year in the state of Louisiana.  in August, they brought Ms. Mingee four tubs of ice cream, a book about the history of Blue Bell for the VLE Library, and enough ice cream cups for everyone at VLE to join in the celebration!

Parent Teacher Partnership - August 20th 5:30

PTO is now PTP, VLE's Parent Teacher Partnership. We are so excited about this new name, as it better reflects how both school and home work together for the benefit of our students! August 20th is our first PTP meeting for the new school year at 5:30 in the cafeteria. We need all members of our partnership to attend to make plans for the 2019-2020 school year!

AR Family Project is Due September 5th

VLE families are being asked to take a photo of your child/children reading a book. The picture can be taken with your child reading alone, with siblings or with mom, dad, grandparents, pets, stuffed animals/dolls, etc. We are looking for special reading photos that fit our Accelerated Reader theme, "Reading is my favorite sport!"
E-mail your child's reading photo to vidalialowerlibrary@gmail.com by September 5th! Please include your child's name and teacher's name in the email for identification.
