Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded Vidalia Lower Elementary School a $4,000.00 grant to support youth literacy initiatives. Mrs. Kalandra Loyd, Assistant Principal, submitted the project which was titled, Literacy Train: Empower, Inspire, and Learn!

Congratulations to Lyrehc Cage who was the VLE Top AR Reader for the 2019-2020 school year. Lyrehc also was recognized as the top 2nd grade reader, and earned trophies for the 50, 75. and 100 AR Points clubs. Lyrehc was in Ms. Bernard's class.
Congratulations to Mia Hutchins, who was recognized as the 2nd place Top AR Reader at Vidalia Lower during the 2019-2020 school year. Mia was a student in Ms. Bernard's class, and also received trophies for joining the 50 and 75 AR Points clubs.

The Nutrien Seed Survivor Mobile Classroom visited 2nd graders at VLE.
Students learned about all the things a plant needs to grow healthy and strong.
2nd graders reached into a mystery box to discover what things live in the soil.
Inside the mobile classroom, there were lots of interesting video games to help us learn about plants.

VLE Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Samantha Fielder, was recognized by Superintendent, Mr. Whest Shirley, as the Concordia Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year at the February school board meeting. Vidalia Lower is so proud of Mrs. Fielder, and we wish her good luck as she moves on to the Louisiana State Teacher of the Year competition!
Vidalia Lower Elementary was recently awarded a Wal-Mart Community Grant for the amount of $2,000. The grant was written for "Core Values of Teachers and Students Appreciation", and was funded by local store #1106 in Vidalia. These funds will be used to ensure that Vidalia Lower Elementary continues to excel by celebrating growth in academics, attendance, and positive behavior. Pictured is VLE Assistant Principal, Mrs. Kalandra Loyd, who applied for the grant.
Susan Mingee, the school librarian at Vidalia Lower Elementary was recently selected as a WE Teachers Award recipient. WE Teachers and Walgreens teamed up during this academic school year to recognize deserving teachers nationwide and to provide free tools and resources. Mingee has received a Walgreens $500 gift card to buy supplies she needs to empower the 460 students she teaches in the library. Pictured left to right in the Natchez Walgreens store are Walgreens District Manager, David McPherson; Torri Givens, Walgreens CSA who encouraged Mingee to apply for the program; WE Teachers Award Recipient, Susan Mingee; Mel Reid who nominated Mingee; and Walgreens Store Manager, Tammy Waller.
